Johnny and Billy Cain Outfitters

Region: Nunavik

The project aims at extending the existing season by six weeks with the creation of a new ecotourism and adventure experience on the Leaf River, featuring kayaking and the renovation of two remote camps. The Leaf River and its estuary offer some of the most diverse fishing in Quebec (sea trout, Arctic char and Atlantic salmon), as well as the opportunity to observe numerous marine animals, such as beluga, bearded and ringed seals, which feed in the estuary and migrate up the freshwater river in pursuit of migrating fish. Muskox, caribou, black bear and other wildlife are also easily observed in the estuary and valley. Note: JBCO is the only 100% Inuit-owned and operated outfitter registered with the Quebec Outfitter Federation and the Nunavik Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks.

Willie’s Camp

Region: Nunavik

Willie’s camp was a Caribou sport hunting camp owned by the George river cooperative association. This camp operated successfully from 1996 to 2017 when a moratorium was introduced in Quebec to cease the sport hunt for Caribou. The camp has remained unused since then. The project aims thus at changing its vocation to create a fishing camp in July and August, and a Caribou viewing and hiking camp from mid August through September. This camp is 200km west of Kuujjuaq and has great potential for both of these activities.

Parc nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes

Region: North Shore

At Parc Nature, creativity knows no bounds. The project has two components. Firstly, the development of a 4-season reception and interpretation infrastructure with a unique theme; there is no interpretation center that approaches the marine environment from the angle of primary productivity (phytoplankton), which is the basis of the St. Lawrence food chain and marine ecosystems. What's so fascinating? Realizing that this microscopic alga is considered one of the world's largest CO2 collectors and oxygen producers. Then there's the development of new, high-end, unusual accommodations. Imagine sleeping in giant bird's eggs overlooking the river. This innovation in unusual accommodation adds to the existing range of giant bird nesting boxes.
